CleanMap bookmarklet

Based on a request, here is a modified version of the Clean SV bookmarklet that will clean both Streetview and the main Google Map to give you a full-screen view without any tools or boxes. If you use this you can get rid of the Clean SV bookmarklet.

If you are using a modern browser (I tested FF and Chrome), all you need to do is copy the link below to your bookmarks by dragging it over to your bookmarks bar, and when you click on it all of the boxes and tools on the screen will go away and give you an unobstructed view (or come back if they are already gone).

Hopefully you'll find this a useful tool.

  1. Thank you !
Btw, is there a way to hide street names - the white ones you see on the ground - as well ?

    1. Unfortunately not, the street names are not done in a way that allows me to block them using this bookmarklet. I haven't figured out any way to remove them.

  3. Guess I am doing something wrong. I added the Cleanmap link to my bookmarks. I use chrome but I still get all the images. It takes one third! of my screen. Crazy. I also disabled my addblock but still no results. What am I doing wrong? thanks

    1. Hi Marlene, you included it on your bookmark bar, correct? You have to click on the bookmarklet from the bar when you are viewing a map (if you are unsure you can toggle the bar with ctrl-shift-B).

This also only works for the full version of Maps, not the lite version. Do you know which version you are using? If you are in Lite mode there will be a lightening bolt icon in the lower right corner and if you click on it a window will pop-up and tell you what mode you are in and possibly allow you to switch to full mode.

  4. The bookmarklet is not working anymore. I have tested on latest Chrome Browser as well on Opera Beta. I am in full version of Maps and not in the Lite Mode. I am using Windows 10.

    1. Hi, thanks for letting me know, it's not working for me either. Google has a nasty habit of occasionally renaming the map elements that the script hides. I'm a bit busy right now, probably next week I can take a look at trying to get it back up and running.

  8. Thanks Dave for the revised bookmarklet. I tested it just now on Opera Beta and it worked like a charm.

  9. Looks like that the script has stopped working. Tested it again in Opera Beta, Chrome and IE-10 and it didn't work.

PS: I submit only a comment at a time but somehow it gets triplicated. Looks like a bug. If this happens again I will delete the other two.

    1. Sometimes I think Google is messing with me just for fun. They changed one of the element names, and then when I changed the script to match the new name they changed it back again. It should be working again now, hopefully for longer than last time!

  13. Dave, thank you so much for this 'invention'. I use google street view a lot to to create and save photos. I was so mad when they disabled classic, so much more adjusting and cropping and still could not obtain what I wanted.
You have restored my happiness, Peter
